Hyskore Compact Revolver Light Review

Hyskore Compact Revolver Light Review

Today I’m reviewing a product that’s been out for a few years and it’s actually kind of innovative. It’s a Compact Revolver Grip Light https://hyskore.com/products/30265-compact-revolver-grip-light/ this is put out by Hyskore www.hyskore.com  fits on your J frame revolvers. It has it has a light that runs along the top, as you can see here along the cylinder and it’s about 100-110 lumens. It runs off one CR123 Lithium battery.

I’ve got an older model 36 J frame and this is not really a compact grip for a compact revolver, though it is very hand filling and I enjoy it very, very much. The activation button is below the trigger guard. You have to take it apart to replace the batteries. The batteries maybe last for 30 minutes if it’s on all the time. There is an actual on/off switch on the bottom, so you can turn it off if you’re not using it in the dark, which is the preferred mode of carry. Otherwise this is very sensitive, and you’ll burn out the battery.

I can tell you one of the great things I like about this light. You’ll notice that it lights up the front sight as well as a target. Here are a couple of good things about the Grip Light. You can see the front sight over the target, you pretty much assume you’re going to get a hit, as well as it also illuminates the front of the gun. Now this is very important as I’ve read reports of police officers with weapon mounted lights in the front, and some bad guys have thought well it’s just a flashlight it’s not a gun, and some consequences as you can imagine, that were catastrophic after the fact. This can perhaps help avoid that. I’ve only got a flashlight and a handgun, so that’s one of the good things that I like about it.

Again, one of things I don’t like about it is that it really eats batteries up quickly. But that’s the nature of the beast. A couple of other things that I was concerned about. The grip is very large. This comes way halfway through the top strap of the frame, making holster selection a problem. Actually with the exception of having something custom made, I didn’t had too much of a problem. All right here I have an old Uncle Mike’s in the waistband. Obviously I took that worthless plastic clip off. This is not very good as a pocket holster per se, but I wear my belt very, very tight, and in the waistband it goes actually with the slippery material much like the Remora holster. It’s kind of grippy, and it sits in there quite well so that’s not too bad. The other thing that I did was I had this one off from Simply Rugged and I took a knife cut off the Strip. Now I wouldn’t necessarily wear this on my belt, there’s not a lot of retention, it’s kind of flaps about, especially now I took this piece out. But it’ll hold five extra rounds at a speed strip, and it’s perfect for my winter jacket.

The other thing is, having said that, summertime is here and if you have a concealed carry ankle holster, it really negate some of the benefits of a small five shot revolver. So I’m going to continue looking on for a daily carry light for this there’s a couple of other options that are available. But for used just at home on your nightstand, it works great. It’s a comfortable grip. It enhances your accuracy because it increases your gripping surfaces. However, again, it takes away some concealability. And then if you’re talking about just for using it for a nightstand gun, it holds five rounds, there are better options available.

Now having said that, if this is the only gun that you own it’s a great $100.00 option. And I actually bought mine on sale for quite a bit less than that. God bless the Internet.

So if the people at Hyskore are listening, this would be a fantastic addition to any square butt K frame revolver. It wouldn’t be any more obtrusive than a regular square frame. You could carry it on duty you have to have a custom made duty holster or a concealed carry holster or which isn’t a big deal. So again, the Hyskore Compact Revolver Light, I’m a big fan of it. It’s a very good price point, it’s a very good light. However, it kind of takes away some of the concealability of it, especially for summertime carry when you’re in shorts and t shirts, which we are here in Northern Michigan. But for a pocket carry or a nightstand gun it works great.
