Homemade Pistol Racks (Easy DIY Solution)

Now as you guys know I got this safe about a month ago now, and for a while I’ve been trying to figure out a way to get my pistols lined up, and get a good pistol rack system going on. I wanted them in there a specific way where I could just reach in and grab a pistol and have it immediately in my hand in case I needed to use it.

There’s a lot of stuff out there on the market that’s cool, but it’s not exactly what I was looking for. I was looking at a homemade solution for it, and after trying several different things this is what I came up with. Now the reason why it shows you guys is first, I just think is kind of cool. Second, if you have a safe at home and it’s set up like a two sided safe where you’ve got two separate sides, where you can either do pistols and long guns, or you can do pistols on both sides, or long guns on both sides, or whatever it is. If you’ve got a safe set up with two sides, you should be able to do this at home. And I’m going to tell you why. All the guns are in there just lined up exactly how I want them. I want to be able to reach in and grab any gun there and have it be in my hand as I need it, to have a good firing grip on the gun.

Now as you can tell the material that was used for these racks looks the same as the material that’s on the inside of the safe. And I’m going to tell you why here shortly. We’ve got six pistols on this rack each. Each one of the three I made will each hold six pistols. It’s set up so it’s very easy to reach in and grab a pistol. It doesn’t matter if it’s one of the revolvers, or the full size semi auto, even a subcompact Glock all fit great. Even this little Taurus P.T. 22, which is tiny little pistol, you can just reach in grab it in your hand, and it’s right where it needs to be and it works perfectly.

There are so many other racks out there on the market that do not hold a gun. There are a couple that Hyskore www.hyskore.com makes which are those foam ones, and they hold them a little more up like that. The Hyskore 6 Gun Rack https://hyskore.com/products/30277-6-gun-eva-pistol-rack/ is the absolute best. And plus they only cost anywhere from $15.00 – $20.00 apiece.

So let’s take all the guns out. So it’s really just two parts. You’ve got this front part here with the felt on it. That actually holds the guns in. This back part is basically just to support this is a one by six piece of fencing that I had it cost me nothing, and even if you had to buy one, this whole fence post or a whole piece of fencing would probably only cost you about three dollars, and you could easily make four or five pistol racks out of that three bucks. On the front you’ve got these three screws that screw for that. All I did was basically cut a piece of fencing to fit. So it’s cut evenly on both sides and matches up. This is just a support for the actual pistol, and the good thing about it is a nice soft wood. So you set your pistols on there. They touch the end of the wood there. It’s not going to scratch him up or ding them, if anything it’s going to put the little marks in the wood before it does anything to your gun. And that’s exactly what I was looking for.

If you buy a safe OK and you’ve got one of those safes that has both sides and you can set it up to where either one side long guns one side pistols, or both side pistols, or both sides long guns, it always comes with an extra shelf. This is the rack for your long guns OK. And my safe, along with many other safes on the market, come with two shelves if you get a big double sided safe. All I did was cut the three sides and made three racks out of them. It was that simple. Very simple, easy to make, and it cost me absolutely nothing. I already had the fencing, I already had the screws. They took 10 minutes to assemble. And even if you don’t have an extra one of these racks, I am positive you could go online and find them probably shipped to your house for under $10.00. You can go to Cannon, Century Safe, and probably even check eBay, and you can find these things to make yourself some pistol racks. When you compare that that probably cost about 10 bucks, and you compare that to the $15.00 – $20.00 per each rack you would have to pay, plus maybe you spend in two or three dollars on a piece of fence posts. It is so much cheaper to build your own. Seriously you just need a little saw, even a handsaw, and some screws and you’re done. That’s it. It goes together really easy and it holds the guns absolutely perfectly. It’s so much cheaper than trying to go and buy racks. You can probably put felt or paint on that backside if you want to do that too. Do it yourself pistol racks that work ok but not anywhere as good as the Hyskore racks. Doing my own, although cheap, took me hours and then they were only raw wood. The Hyskore Pistol Racks were winners right out of the box and only took 30 seconds to set up.
