Is the New Gen 5 Glock Better Than the Older Generations?

The new Gen 5 by Glock is available in G17 https://eu.glock.com/en/products/pistols/g17and G19 https://eu.glock.com/en/products/pistols/g19models. For those of you not familiar with their models, those are only available in 9mmhttps://www.federalpremium.com/handgun/american-eagle/american-eagle-handgun/11-AE9DP100.html. This pistol is different for Glock,it has no finger grooves, like back to the early days when a Glock fit pretty much everybody’s hand. When you on put finger grooves it’s going to limit the number of people who can actually access this pistol and control it comfortably, you’re definitely at the mercy of whatever size those finger grooves are. The flared mag well is one of the best things Glock could have done for this particular pistol,it will certainly aid reloads. It flares just enough and has just enough of a ramp all around the mag to allow for much easier insertion of a full magazine, especially in a high stress situation. The ambidextrous slide stop lever is a little bit different for Glock,it’s the first time they tried to do something that was truly ambidextrous. On previous models youmade the change so you could have your mag catch swapped to the other side, but this was a big deal. That’s probably where the FBI’s requirements pushed them in this direction.Glock probably would not have made this improvement on their own if they weren’t trying to set up a pistol for the FBI. It’s nice that this gets passed on to the civilian version. They didn’t try to round the frame, which looks a little clumsy and maybe like they forgot something. Glock is usually on their game when it comes to making things work well with one another. Everybody notices the lands and groove rifling instead of the polygon andit is kind of a big deal because there were some fouling issues in the past where Glock didn’t want you to shoot lead in your polygon barrels because it could create some issues. In terms of accuracy, it makes perfect sense that you have a lands and grooves rifling system on the Glock if you’re gonna make the claim that your pistol is just as accurate as every other striker fired pistol on the market today.

There’s a cut out on the bottom of the front strap that is supposed to assist with stripping your magazine in the event it gets jammed. If you had a magazine had been dropped in mud or dirt or something like that and it got jammed in there it would be helpful because these magazines really should drop free even whenthey’re not loaded. Some people complain about the finger groove but there’s no way that it affects your grip that much because you’re not getting that much grip with your pinky finger. The finish is a darker black instead of just black,it has a little bit darker look to it. It’s a new, more durable finish that Glock is using that’s supposed to hold up better over time. You’re not putting your guns out there to show them off and to impress anybody with how pretty they look.

The magazines are a little bit different, they have an orange follower. It gives you a nice quick visual so you can tell if your gun is unloaded and you need to recharge that magin addition the mags have an extended front lip. The pistol still has the same stippling that you saw in Gen 4. It’s not overly aggressive, it isjust good texturing. The sightsare not much compared to the sights on the standard issue of the G17 of the G19.However, there are some really cool night sights that Glock is putting on some of these models. These sights are going to be awesome for utilizing this pistol at night. People might be willing to spend an extra $50.00-$75.00 if Glock put a better set of sights on their pistols. The new trigger is way better than the old trigger in dry firing, the reset, if it is in fact, shorter. Glocks are good guns they function and that fire when you pull the trigger. The flared mag well is the thing they should’ve done a long time ago, that’s a big deal. Some of the other things people might find a lot cooler like the ambidextrous slide catch and the flared mag,are a step forward. They actually did something different this time. Don’t be disappointed if it’s not a whole lot different from your last Glock. It feels like it’s got a lubricated feel to it, very slick. You can do a Hey Google or Hey Siri search to find our more about this finish.

Since most people who have one Glock have several, and have other handguns, in addition if you have a group of pistols you probably have many magazines for them. There are many ways to store and organize handguns. One of the best that we have seen is made by Hyskore www.hyskore.com. It’s their 30277 Six Gun Modular Pistol Rack https://hyskore.com/products/30277-6-gun-eva-pistol-rack/. This is a great rack because not only does it have a smooth, semi rigid finish that properly supports handguns and keeps them from touching each other, thereby avoiding scratches and damage, it’s also modular. The rack can be disassembled, and then the various segments can be reassembled to accommodate guns of various widths such as single stack magazine guns, double stack magazine guns, and revolvers. This is available from Amazon https://www.amazon.com/HYSKORE-Modular-Pistol-Rack-Green/dp/B00V72R4R2/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?dchild=1&keywords=hyskore+dergreezer&qid=1573757094&sr=8-1-fkmr0. This also leads to the ability to take several racks and add them together to make one customized rack that fills the upper shelf in the typical gun safe so you can utilize every inch and have a place for each one of your guns.

As far as magazine storage goes, if you have that many guns you probably have many magazines. Hyskore has also developed really good pistol magazine storage racking systems. The 30316 Double Stack Magazine Organizer https://hyskore.com/products/30316-double-stack-modular-magazine-storage/ which holds 12 double stack magazines.
