The Hyskore 30185 Black Gun Machine Rest

How to set up the Hyskore 30185 Black Gun Machine Rest

Take note of the bench grip arm in the storage position. Take out the bolts that hold it in place, slide it out, turn it over, put it back in place, and pick the length that you want that’s appropriate for the bench you’re shooting on. Once you tighten the wing nuts, and you have the bench grip arm firmly in place, move the rest back so that the grip arm firmly engages the front edge of the bench, and push the rest back a little bit to make sure it’s secure. Next thing you have to do is anchor the rest to the bench top. There are five spots and there’s one more at the tail end of the rest. It’s important to anchor at that point also. Due to slight differences in the dimensions of the raw material, and also in the application of the finish, the rest is designed with a little bit of extra play between the moving parts. This helps prevent binding. However, if you find that there’s a little bit too much play to suit your preference, there are four slack adjusters. Tighten the screw down all the way, back it off 1/8 to ¼ turn, and then tighten the nut. Also, what you want to do at that point is check the rest, make sure it’s moving freely and returns to battery, and you’re good to go.

The set comes equipped with a remote hydraulic trigger release. Simply press on the master cylinder, and bingo there you go. To reset do not pull on the plunger. Push on this plunger and that way you will not introduce air into the system. To secure the gun in the rest, there are three sets of cleats for anchoring web straps. In addition, there’s a unique butt retainer arrangement that has a vise centering the gun in the rest and holding it secure, and a removable web strap goes right around the butt of the gun. This way you can actually shoot the gun off your shoulder while it’s secured. The rest uses two different systems for progressively absorbing the recoil and then returning the gun to battery. The primary system is the compression dampers, one on the right side and one on the left side. These are low resistance long stroke dampers that bleed off recoil as the gun moves back. In addition, in case you need to vary the resistance you either increase it or decrease it. You simply tighten these knobs to increase, and this compresses these coil springs and this gives additional recoil resistance. Or you loosen them and if you take more resistance out of the recoil you can eliminate them completely. Or you can use the springs only and remove the dampers. The heavy duty web strap that secures the butt of the gun is easily removed. This means that you can use the rest as a regular shooting rest and shoot the gun directly off your shoulder. By removing these two knobs the entire vice assembly can be removed from the rest. In addition, because it has this threaded stem underneath, it can be used as a secondary means for elevating the butt of the gun.
