The Hyskore 30251 Six Gun Speed Rack

How to use the Hyskore 30251 Six Gun Speed Rack

Always make certain that your gun is unloaded before using this product. The function of the rack is rather simple. Guns slide on and guns slide off. That’s why we call it a speed rack. The Rack organizes six guns in a confined space, which makes it the perfect accessory for a gun vault. Space beneath a shelf that previously may not have been usable now becomes a home to six easily accessible guns. The set includes six Delrin barrel inserts. Delrin is a modern plastic that’s both strong and flexible, and will not cause any harm to barrels or muzzles. In addition, beneath the rack there’s enough room to store magazines. Once you’ve decided exactly where you want to locate each one of your guns, take the threaded end of the barrel insert, put it through the appropriate hole in the face of the rack, and tighten on a hex nut hand tight. Now you’re ready to move on.

Not all guns have the same barrel diameter, and this set is equipped with six barrel inserts which are capable of easily supporting guns 40 caliber and up. In the case of a 357, it’s just not a good fit. However, it’s an easy situation to adjust. Simply take your barrel insert, put it into a power drill, it doesn’t matter which way the drill turns, put a piece of sandpaper over it, hold the sandpaper against the insert and run the drill. This will uniformly reduce the diameter of the barrel insert. In this case after about 30-35 seconds the insert will be sized just perfectly to fit that 357. This process can be continued all the way down to a 32 caliber.

The first step in mounting the rack either on top or below a shelf, is to thread a hex nut onto the shelf hook about 2 3/4 inches. In this case we’re going set this up for above the shelf mounting. Now that you’ve done that, put that threaded end through the hole and tighten the other hex nut. Now do exactly the same thing for the other side.

To set the rack for under shelf mounting you will have to put the shelf hooks in from the other side of the rack. You may note that the threaded section on the hook is fairly long. The reason for that is so that you can adjust the distance from the rack to the edge of the shelf. To set up the speed rack for under shelf installation, the first thing to do is put all the barrel inserts into the 90 degree vertical side of the bracket, and then insert the hooks from the same side. Once you’ve done that, simply hang it from the shelf.

You may find that the overall length of the shelf hook is a little bit too much for the shelf when you want to apply the rack. That’s easy to correct. First identify the point where you want to cut the rod, screw a nut on beyond that point, make it cut with a hacksaw, and then back the nut off. By doing it this way the nut will chase the thread, and clear it and reshape it so that now when you want to thread the nuts back on, everything will engage and fit easily. If your shelf is only three quarters of an inch thick, it’s necessary to rotate the shelf hooks so they firmly grasp the shelf and hold the rack in place, and then to take your wrench and tighten the nuts on the other end of the shelf hooks. In order to ensure proper stability and to keep the rack from tilting forward and dumping your guns off, you need to insert four screws into the holes in the bracket. The shelf hooks are designed to accept shelves up to one and a half inches thick

For a finished shelf rotate the hook so it grips the shelf firmly, and then tighten down the nut at the other end so the hook stays in place. In addition, you might want to further secure the bracket to the shelf by using the holes and screws here. It’s also a very good idea to make certain that the shelf is solidly anchored and stable before you mount the bracket or put your guns on it.

The Rack can be mounted on a vertical flat surface such as the inside of a closet. If you are going to do this on a dry wall, there are two things to keep mind. Number one, it has to be anchored solidly to a stud. Number two, you may have to put a lateral piece of wood across two studs, anchor that to the studs, and then screw the rack to that piece of wood. Remember always unload your gun before placing it on the rack. Use the four screw holes that have been punched in the base to mount the rack directly onto a flat horizontal surface.
